The lifeless bodies of 6 persons including a woman have been retrieved from a river at Esreso Adegya in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.
The six got drowned in the river Thursday night when a portion of the Adegya bridge caved in following a torrential rain.
The Assemblyman for the area, Hon Emmanuel Adams confirmed the incident to HalidasNews reporter and a senior journalist, Aboagye Frank Jackson saying the river overflowed its bank during the 4 – hour rainfall.
According to him,the 6 persons who were members of the Jehovah Witness were crossing the bridge in their car but bumped into the other side of the worn out passage.
He explained that a search party could not immediately enter the river because of the high waves.
The Assemblyman said they could only retrieve the bodies at 3am Friday morning, Hon Adams expressed sadness about the mishap saying the dangerous nature of the bridge was several times reported but no attention was given.
He revealed that a recent similar disaster on that same river claimed the life’s of two kids who had closed from school.
The bodies have been deposited at the morgue.
